Healing Icecrown Citadel
Hi, This is my Healers guide to Icecrown Citadel, I have made this thread to help new healers adjust and learn of the end game content without a embarrassing Talk in raid before every boss encounter. I will start with the first wing and eventually go all the way to Lich king. I have not yet killed the Lich king on 10 man yet but hope to get him this week if you are wondering...my character's name is Fedath on the server Gilneas. Also raided in BC on Yohes of Dentarg so i have been playing quite awhile, not as long as most though.
The Starting Area:
Ice Crown citadel starts with Zoning in through the main doors of the citadel itself that has been rammed by Argent Crusade soldiers lead by Tirion Fordring and Highlord Darrion Mograine. When you zone in you see a collection of Argent champions defending the doorway and many vendors. There is really only 3 vendors you should be concerned about there is the Frost badge non-set Epic Vendor, The Ashen Verdict Reputation Vendor, And a Class specific vendor that sells your Teir 10 sets for Frost badges. The Ashen Verdict is the Reputation you will earn for killing almost everything in ICC. There is also a Quest giver that will allow you to pick choose a reputation ring once you reach Friendly Reputation. You get a Ring upgrade every Reputation Teir until exalted. Choose your ring wisely as it costs Gold to change them in the future.
The First Wing of Icecrown Citadel: (Also known as the Lower Spire)
LORD MARROWGAR: Trash and Boss.
When your group is all ready (10 or 25) you will start to pull some trash mobs. As a healer there are a few things you need to be careful about. The First mobs you will pull will be groups of The Damned They do a decent amount of damage to the tanks but are easily managed, The only Warning with these mobs is that when they Die they break apart into Many pieces that hurt everyone around them, so for example when they die all melee dps and Tanks will take a burst amount of damage that should be healed quickly just in case another dies quickly after it. you should also not be standing near them at all, because at times i have seen them all die at once and 1 shot a clothie.
A warning when entering the room there are invisible traps on the floor of the Citadel that can trigger Deathbound Ward These are Giant Skeletons that if pulled Will be tanked with multiple tanks taking damage, These guys can be tricky Since they will Hit that tanks...Hard. No other way of putting it they hit both or more tanks at once for a lot of damage and also every so often they will cast Disrupting shout a ability that silences all casters if they are caught casting a spell when he casts it. this ability is easily avoided if you watch for him to cast the spell and just stop casting till he is done casting it then you were not silenced and can heal your tanks up. There are 2 of these in each room. Rogues can Disarm the traps so most Raids choose to just disarm them and skip these mobs altogether.
Next you will have a few groups on each side and a Nerub'ar Broodkeeper On each side these should be line of sight pulled and are easiliy healed thru i would only warn about their Web wrap ability this is similar to the trash mobs leading to first boss on Azjol Nerub. As long as Dps is on the ball and dps's out wrapped allys these shouldnt be a problem.
Ok First room almost cleared! now you have the caster groups, these are very easy as long as tanks round em up, tank and Spank a few raid members may get frostbolt blasted but its fairly easy to heal through. The next pull is Casters plus Nerub'ar from last paragraph, same as last pull but have web wrapping involved. As long as dps knows what to do if you get web wrapped just keep everyone up and try not to pull aggro( I always do somehow right here). Next you have another of the last pull and 2 more traps with giant skeletons, This is a nice place to have a rogue so you can get rid of traps and dont have any surprises when pulling this last pack. After everything is nice and killed You walk to the entrance of the next room and see the First Boss of ICC Lord Marrowgar.
Lord Marrowgar Will be your first test in ICC, this boss is usually healed with 2-3 healers in 10 man, and 5-6 in 25 man. The main Job as a healer on this fight is to keep the tanks up. I don't care if you are raid heals and whatever you need to keep those tanks up. In 10 man the 2 tanks will stack up and the resto of the raid including you will stack on his Tailbone inside his hit box this makes it easy to get everyone out of Bone Spike and to keep you and the raid out of the blue fair he spread around the room in lines like the Snake game.. Now the tanks will be getting hit hard and your best tank healer needs to be on them full time, then i would assign a healer to tank heal then when he uses Bone Spike Graveyard Heal the person who gets spiked they will need to be kept alive until spike drops then you can throw a heal on them and get back to the tanks quickly. I prefer not assigning healers to a specific tank on this fight Unless you have something like 2 holy paladins healing the fight. That is all of phase one Tanks getting turned into Meat Shields and Healing up bone spikes until dps can kill and knock the player back down. We Now enter the 2nd phase of this Fight. This phase Marrowgar uses an ability called Bone Storm, this causes damage to everyone around him, he will fly around picking random targets to "hop" to the biggest issues in thsi fight is not the bone storm but the blue fire called Cold-flame he drops around himself this WILL kill some1 who stands in it too long it deals 6000 dps to anyone standing in it. This is where raid heals are good keep hots up and healing everyone taking damage and keep out of Cold-flame. After 3-4 hops around Lord marrowgar will stop casting Bonestorm and go back into Phase 1. All raid member need to get back on his tailbone, A good thing to know if you are close enough is to target marrowgar and get inside that red circle but still behind him. he does a frontal cleave that will kill you if you go to the front. After a few Phase switches you kill him! Congrats you just got your first kill of Icecrown Citadel.
